First leukemia children’s hospital comes into being

BEIJING, Jan. 14 (Xinhuanet) — China’s first children hospital for curing kids with leukemia has officially been inaugurated in Beijing.

ÿ ÿ The hospital featuring the combination of treating both traditional Chinese and Western therapy was opened by the Chinese Red Cross foundation.

ÿ ÿ Upon inauguration Friday, Han Yongke, director of the hospital,made the commitment to cancel medical fees for 10 patients from very poor families, adding his hospital will reduce a fee of 2,000 yuan (about 250 U.S. dollars) on average for each young patient from impoverished families.

ÿ ÿ China has about 4 million leukemia patients and half of them are kids, according to statistics with the Red Cross.

ÿ ÿ The hospital, or the former Beijing Hospital for blood diseases homeopathy with the use of Chinese and Western Medicine, has been one of the earliest medical institutions to specialize in treatingl eukemia patients with traditional Chinese medicine and therapy.
