Prevent osteoporosis: Build Healthy Bones

April 16, 2008 – 9:56 am

prevent_osteoporosis.gifOsteoporosis doesn’t have to be an inevitable part of aging–if you begin practicing healthy habits when you’re young.

Here are some facts about osteoporosis, and suggestions to help prevent brittle bones, courtesy of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons:

1.Women who are or have been pregnant, who are breast-feeding, or who have had a hysterectomy are more likely to lose bone mass, putting them at higher risk of osteoporosis.

2.Women who are menopausal or postmenopausal produce less estrogen than before, which weakens bones.

3.Ideally, weight-bearing exercises should begin during the teen years, when the bones grow rapidly.

4.It’s never too late to start protecting your bones, which may continue to grow throughout your 20s, and even into your early 30s.

5.Avoid smoking and excess alcohol, which weaken bones.

A New Way to Control Weight?

April 16, 2008 – 9:50 am

weight_loss-1.gifScientists have found intriguing evidence that one major reason so many people are overweight these days may be as close as the seat of their pants. Literally. According to the researchers, most of us sit too much.

In most cases, exercise alone, according to a team of scientists at the University of Missouri, isn’t enough to take off those added pounds. The problem, they say, is that all the stuff we’ve heard the last few years about weight control left one key factor out of the equation. When we sit, the researchers found, the enzymes that are responsible for burning fat just shut down.

This goes way beyond the common sense assumption that people who sit too much are less active and thus less able to keep their weight under control. It turns out that sitting for hours at a time, as so many of us do in these days of ubiquitous computers and electronic games and 24-hour television, attacks the body in ways that have not been well understood. Moist exposed burn ointment Reduce Burn Care Cost

April 15, 2008 – 2:27 pm

Burn injury is one of the most devastating injuries that may affect a patient.

Even in economically deprived areas, burn care is largely driven by relatively plentiful resources equating quality of care with generous monitoring and clinical attention with little concern to management cost.

Burn care costs have been the subject of very few investigations and are among the least studied by health services researchers.

Nevertheless, it can be stated that local care of burn wounds accounts for a large proportion of the cost per day for treating patients. Read the rest of this entry »

Xiao Yao Wan the most famous One for PMS

April 7, 2008 – 5:17 pm

As a teenager and young woman, I suffered horribly with painful menstrual periods. Every month, for several days before my period, I would feel bloated, tired and irritable. Just the pressure of the water in the shower would be intolerable on my tender breasts. I would crave sugar (especially chocolate). And the day before my period, I would literally be bedridden with knife-like cramps that would cause severe nausea and vomiting.

My mother took me to the gynecologist. They found absolutely nothing wrong with me and told my mother and me that all of these symptoms would probably disappear after I had my first baby. Just what every mother wants the doctor to tell her sixteen-year old daughter!

Western medicine now defines Pre-Menstrual Syndrome (PMS) as a cluster of psychological and physical symptoms that appear to be closely related to the luteal phase of the menstrual cycle. Read the rest of this entry »
